Carrier's
heritage of technological leadership began with the
discovery and development of the world's first system
for humidity control and "modern" air
conditioning.
A pioneering tradition that began with Willis Carrier
continues today with innovative products like our 48GP
packaged gas/electric comfort system. The 48GP is the
world's first packaged unit to use Puron® refrigerant,
the globally accepted replacement for Freon®-22*. This
packaged system delivers warm, winter comfort with gas
heating, soothing summer relief with electric cooling
and the additional benefits associated with the
environmentally sound Puron refrigerant.
Although
relatively new, Puron refrigerant has received
the highest safety rating from The American
Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Engineers. It is also accepted
throughout the industry as the long-term
replacement for Freon®-22, the refrigerant
currently used in most air conditioning systems.
And, while many other manufacturers are
beginning to develop environmentally sound
products, they are still a step or two behind.
With the 48GP, Carrier is actually expanding a
product line that has been used in residential
applications since 1996. This new product family
has become the most reliable in our entire
offering of indoor comfort equipment. |

Enjoy the comfort of
money saving economy all year long. During the
heating season, Carrier's 48GP operates at 80% AFUE
(Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The Turbo-Tubular™
heat exchanger helps achieve that heating efficiency by
allowing hot gases to make multiple passes across the
path of the indoor air. During cooling operation, you
can count on efficiency rated at 12 SEER (Seasonal
Energy Efficiency Ratio), thanks in part to the
smooth-operating scroll compressor designed specifically
for use with Puron refrigerant.

The
48GP is designed and tested to provide year
round heating and cooling you can count on.
The single most important component to cooling
operation, the scroll compressor, is protected
from potential damage with high and low pressure
switches. A filter drier helps rid the system of
moisture and debris, which can affect
performance. Finally, Carrier runs thorough
reliability testing starting with product design
and following through with assembly line testing
of the completed products.
Tough,
durable construction helps the 48GP stand up to
the rigors of outdoor installation.
Carrier's high-tech, composite base pan provides
a sturdy, rust-free foundation. This special
base pan offers rust protection to both the 48GP
and the installation surface, an especially
important point to remember for rooftop
installations. Additional corrosion resistance
comes from the tough, aluminum coating on the
heat exchanger and the copper tube, aluminum fin
coil. The end result is an environmentally sound
comfort system designed to provide the indoor
weather you expect with the reliability you
deserve.
Carrier's
48GP packaged gas/electric comfort system uses
environmentally sound Puron refrigerant to
deliver year-round comfort. In response to
the global concern surrounding ozone depletion
caused by HCFCs, the Clean Air Act of 1990
declared that refrigerants containing HCFCs must
be phased out of use and replaced by another,
safer refrigerant. One of the refrigerants
scheduled for the phase-out, Freon®-22, is the
most commonly used refrigerant in most of
today's air conditioners and heat pumps. Puron
is the indoor comfort industry's universally
accepted replacement for Freon®-22, and Carrier
has been at the forefront of designing, testing
and installing heating and cooling equipment
that uses this environmentally sound
refrigerant.

Not
only is Puron environmentally sound, it also
helps the 48GP deliver indoor comfort with
money-saving efficiency. The same
formulation that makes Puron environmentally
sound also produces superior heat transfer
capabilities, a vital part of the 48GP cooling
system. In fact, the 48GP offers cooling
efficiency that easily surpasses the efficiency
of older packaged comfort systems and many new
models as well.

Installing the 48GP
with Puron today can help you avoid the potentially
skyrocketing costs for servicing a unit that uses Freon®-22.
It's a fact that Freon®-22 will become obsolete. Ask
anybody associated with the auto industry what happened
when Freon®-12 was phased out and they will tell you
that the costs of servicing cars using that refrigerant
rose exponentially. That same scenario could easily
happen with Freon®-22 in home heating and cooling
systems. By choosing the 48GP with Puron, you'll enjoy
savings right away with efficient operation while
avoiding potentially higher service costs in the future.

Always look for
these symbols, the home heating industry seals of
certified performance, efficiency and capacity.
